NEER DOSA RECIPE / BROKEN RICE RECIPES
Here is a super simple dish to make for breakfast and dinner. The real healthy twist to Neer dosa. Dosa is my favorite breakfast recipe which is considered as the healthy Indian breakfast. This dosa recipe is a variation of Neer dosa recipe. It is named so because the batter for neer dosa is of flowing consistency. Mostly rice powder or raw rice is used for making this type of dosa. But here i used brown broken rice / podi ari / cheriya ari (the rice which is used for making gruel / kanji for kids and adults) . Gruel made with brown broken rice (podi ari) is considered as a healthy comfort food.
Neer dosa is my favorite and is prepared mostly for breakfast. It is served with chutney or any curry recipe. It tastes awesome even with sugar and ghee. I remember, in my school days i used to have neer dosa with just ghee and sugar which i loved the most than a curry. Normally we can see white colored neer dosa which is prepared with white rice and coconut. So lets give this a twist with brown broken rice or red rice and coconut milk. So lets move on to the recipe showing how to make neer dosa with broken rice / dosa with podi ari / healthy breakfast recipe / simple breakfast.

INGREDIENTS
Broken rice (brown ) / podi ari / cheriya ari - 2 cups
Salt - to taste (add less)
Coconut milk - half a cup (optional)
Water - 1.5 cups or more
Oil - 2 tbsp
PREPARATION
- Soak the broken rice (podi ari) in water over night or at least 4 to 5 hours.
- When done, drain it and wash thoroughly several times.
- Now grind this broken rice with one cup of water. (that means, for one cup of rice, you have to add half a cup of water for grinding). Grind well until smooth.
- Transfer to a bowl. Now you have to add half a cup of coconut milk or water to make the batter a flowing consistency (not too thick nor too thin). Still the batter is thick, add more water. Make sure that the batter isn't too runny. The consistency is very important .
- Add salt.
- Now heat a cast iron dosa chatti or non stick pan. I prefer rough surfaced non stick pan than smooth non stick pan for making any rice dosa recipes.
- Add two tablespoons of oil . Once heated, pour this oil to the dosa batter (so that no need of greasing the pan before making each dosas ). You can skip adding oil to the dosa batter, but instead you have to grease the pan before making each dosa.
- Mix well. And then make the flame to medium. Pour a ladle full of batter and throw the batter from one end to another from a minimum height. This gives a thin dosa with tiny holes.
- Let it cook for one or two minutes. No need of flipping this dosa. Once done, transfer it to a plate.
- Serve hot with chutney, kadala curry (chick peas curry) or potato stew.
