PAN FRIED FISH - TAWA FRY FISH
Pan-fried fish is one of the easiest fish recipes, I guess. This recipe for fried fish is one of my favorite fish recipes which is common in almost all Kerala restaurants and households. Well marinated fish is fried in a non-stick pan until both sides are done. This perfect crispy fried fish, when accompanied with steamed rice, will make your lunch meal delectable for sure. You can see varieties of fried fish recipes on my blog. As I said earlier, fried seafood is always favorite and common among Keralites, especially for their lunch meals. Coconut oil is considered as the best oil for frying fish especially in Kerala. Fish fried in coconut oil leaves a special fresh flavor to the fish. So do not ever skip the use of coconut oil while frying fish or any seafood recipes. The recipe for this fish fry is quite simple. Just grind all the ingredients to a fine paste, marinate the fish and then shallow fry in a pan over a medium flame until both sides are done. Flip in between. INGREDIENTS
Fish - 2 nos, medium-sized, I used whole Sheri fish
Chili powder - 1 tbsp (i used Kashmiri chili powder)
Turmeric powder - half tsp
Coriander powder - 1 tbsp (i used homemade coriander powder )
Garlic crushed - 1 tsp
Coriander leaves - 2 tsp, chopped
Lemon juice - of one big lemon
Salt - to taste
Coconut oil - 1 tsp + 2 tbsp (for shallow frying)
PREPARATION
- Clean the fish and wash with 1 tbsp of vinegar (optional). Set aside to drain.
- Combine together chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, coriander leaves, garlic crushed, lemon juice, salt in a bowl and make a thick mixture. Add 1 tsp of coconut oil to this fish marinade which gives a special flavor. Set aside for at least 15 minutes (or preferably 1 hour). Here I used more coriander powder as am using homemade coriander powder if it is store bought then add less than above said as store bought coriander powder gives a pungent taste.
- Heat the non-stick pan with 2 tbsp of coconut oil. Fry over a medium flame until both sides are done. Flip the fish only when one side is done.
- Garnish with lemon wedges, chilies, and chopped coriander leaves.
- Serve hot along with steamed rice and fish curry.
